Methodology
How we research and fact-check.
Every guide on BonusPrimer follows the same process. This page is our contract with you.
1. Primary sources first
For tax questions we read the relevant IRS publication. For credit card terms we read the issuer’s current application page. For court interpretations (e.g., direct deposit verification) we cite the filings, not the summaries. We never paraphrase without linking to the underlying source.
2. One concept per page
Each guide answers one question. If the answer pulls in another concept, we link to the guide that explains that concept rather than restating it. This keeps pages short and keeps our internal links honest.
3. Last-updated dates are real
A page is “updated” only when a fact on the page changes. We do not refresh the date to game search rankings. If the underlying information has not changed in a year, the last-updated date will reflect that — and if something important about the page is no longer true, we correct it and note the correction at the bottom.
4. Affiliate links are labeled
Some links on BonusPrimer earn us a commission if you apply and are approved. Those links are marked in the text and listed on the affiliate disclosure page. Whether a link is an affiliate link has no effect on where it appears or how the product is described. If we would not recommend a product to a friend, we do not recommend it here, even when an affiliate commission is available.
5. We correct mistakes in public
Everyone gets things wrong. When we do, we fix the error in the article and add a short corrections note at the bottom of the page with the date of the correction and what changed. We do not silently edit. If you spot an error, please tell us.
6. What we are not
BonusPrimer is not a licensed financial advisor, tax preparer, or attorney. We explain publicly available information in plain English. For decisions involving significant money or complex personal circumstances, talk to a professional who knows your full picture.
7. Our own affiliates, listed
When BonusPrimer joins a credit card or bank affiliate network that influences which products we can earn commissions on, we list it on the disclosure page. Joining a program does not mean we will promote every product in it.
